In 2005, she won a talent contest organized by local radio station The Bounce( 91.7 FM) in Edmonton, which enabled her to record four tracks in the studio with Hipjoint Productions in Vancouver. The song“ Bounce With Me” was particularly important for her career, and attracted the attention of music manager Chris Smith. Her first official single,“ Bounce With Me”, was released on iTunes on December 4, 2007, reaching number 53 on the Canadian Hot 100. Her next single,“ Don’ t Call Me Baby”, was released in April 2008 and became her first Canadian Top 10 single, reaching # 8 on the Canadian Hot 100 and # 1 on the Canadian sub- HOT AC chart for eight consecutive weeks. On November 22, 2008,“ Don’ t Call Me Baby” also reached # 1 on the U. S. Billboard Dance Charts, marking her first U. S. # 1.
Turner’ s debut album, Passion, was released in Canada on August 12, 2008, after being previewed on MuchMusic. com on August 5, 2008. The album earned her two Juno Award nominations in 2009 for“ Best New Artist” and“ Pop Album of the Year”. That same year, she won the Canadian Radio Music Award for“ Best New Group / Solo Artist( Rhythmic / Dance / Urban)”. In 2010, she scored a second number-one hit in the U. S. with Delerium’ s“ Dust in Gravity”, on which she provided guest vocals.
Évolution Artistique and Tropic Electric
In November 2011, Turner released his second double-disc studio album, Tropic Electric. The album was divided into two sides:“ Tropic”, recorded in Jamaica for a mix of reggae and pop, and“ Electric”, aimed at fans of her previous album, Passion. This album earned her another Juno Award nomination for“ Best R & B Album”. She released three moderately successful singles from the album:“ Rock Paper Scissors”,“ I Could Stay”, and“ Love Again”.
