black peoples around the world are so busy trying to get bread in their table that they don’t have time to look even to their own selves. Of course it can be sad but we black people even if they seems not see each other they know each other very well because the struggle of one is the struggle of all of them they know what is their live, they are looking at each other like a person looking at itself thru a mirror.
You have won several awards but the one that is still missing dearly is the Grammy you were nominated this year again with Para mi, released in 2017 for the best World Music Album how do you take this mishap after specially after the nomination of 2016 for the Latin album of the year with Si Volveré and in 2013 for Best Latin Jazz Album La Noche Más Larga?
You know I love the Grammy peoples, the nomination was like winning already… to be part of this great mass is an achievement itself. Coming from my walk of life, you always appreciate every situation that happens.
You are a single mother coming from a big family how your love life affects your arts?
About you why for famed women it seems a bit complicated to settle down?
Well first, my mother has done a lot to raise us I will never thank her enough for everything she did. She ‘is the one who have instilled in us the ambition to always move forward and till today these advices are helping my career. My son too is a man now at 18 he is a music producer he has helped a lot in my Grammy nominated Album Para mi. you know I think men are somehow afraid of independent women like me, maybe it’s challenging to deal with the fact that your wife is never there since she has to travel the world. Any way I tell you know, if you are interested in me you better start playing trumpet, so you can play and travel with me all the time …(Smiles)
I know but the challenge can make it last longer as well, who knows it spices up the relationship…smiles… some like it hot… smiles…
When composing your music most of the times what message you want to convey to the listeners?
It’s mostly my life experience, I tell the world from my eyes and understanding, my music talks to peoples in several ways, and every listener have a way to understand it you have the broad message and most likely the inner core, or secret message that some can read thru my music.
