African, even born in Europe, traveling around the world you are a bit like the mother continent that meet the rest of its children who were spread around the world thru the difficult story of slavery what are your connections with the black diaspora of the western world?
Great, even if I think that black in Europe need to come a bit more together. Even if their number is not important like in the Americas… they need to reinforce the community. Everywhere in the world I have meet a black person I have always felt that connection of mutual belonging. We n are coming from the same roots and it’s so deep that it’s not something you can explain with words.
Lately it seems your country of origin, Equatorial Guinea has been doing well at least materially talking, there has been a huge improvement of infrastructures, even if individual freedoms, are still downtrodden. What is your take on this issue? Is the material improvement of people contribute to their freedom?
Unfortunately, the improvement doesn’t benefit the people may be the higher class, is living in luxury… from what I know a lot of people are still struggling despite all. And the lack of freedom makes it worse. Because a lot of people in Equatorial Guinea are still suffering from this oppression of their basic rights. In the hinterland, they cannot access hospital easily when they are sick while those living from farming activities have harder time to meet the ends.
You live in Miami, being a black woman more over from a foreign country for you is an advantage or it comes sometimes with hardship?
Well, being black, is never easy anywhere. But you have to go beyond those cliché they always try to impose on you, and better yourself. I really think that if you work hard enough you will have your chance, to make of your life what you want. And it’s important for blacks in every domain first to reinforce themselves, they need to try to get better if not the best in what ever path of life they are choosing.

In America, and in most of the western countries they have opportunities that other don’t have in Africa for example. And I have learned that if you have brain and skills you can make it. Of course, there is always some peoples who will try to keep you down even in your own community, but you have to fight and keep your faith high.
As journalist a lot of people have talked to us about the underrepresentation of black Spanish in our medias of course even if it’s not the case for Flashmag! since we have showcased blacks from all background Portuguese Spanish, English, Dutch, French, African and many others groups… some believe the Spanish community is already well organized with medias and even awards… yet being black even in the Latin community can be difficult… do you think that it’s relevant for other blacks like the Americans or the French to look over what is going on with Latin blacks?
The English world is well represented in the medias, and of for sure black from English expression have a better spot sometimes, but it’s not easy for them to be black in the English world as well as for us in the Spanish or Portuguese world. But you must acknowledge that we don’t have time…
