From Miami to Seattle, from one coast to the other
In 2016, five years after its founding, Flashmag left Miami and moved to Seattle.
The move is almost novelistic: from the southeastern to the northwestern United States, from one geographical extreme to the other of this continent-sized country. From the warm waters of Florida to the steady rains of the Pacific, from the palm trees of Miami to the gray, tech-driven horizons of Seattle, the magazine proves it can navigate any waters without losing its way.

Miami had offered it movement, color, the spirit of the Caribbean, and the immediate proximity of a diaspora in perpetual motion. Seattle brings it a different horizon: that of technological innovation, the Pacific Coast, and an America looking toward a digital future. Between these two cities— which are almost complete opposites— Flashmag is building a bridge.
This change of port also says something about the diaspora itself. It travels. It moves. It starts anew. It carries its memories, adapts to new environments, and rebuilds elsewhere what it thought it had lost. Flashmag has followed this same path: leaving, settling in another city, learning about new trends, and continuing to publish. Changing locations did not mean abandoning the magazine’ s identity. On the contrary, this transition has strengthened its international focus. Flashmag no longer belonged to just one city. It became a mobile space, capable of connecting distant communities and sharing their stories.
Legends Whose Faces Are Still Unknown
When you look closely at the covers spanning Flashmag’ s fifteen-year history, a veritable constellation emerges. Josephine Baker, Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Tina Turner: figures who have become legendary, artists whose voices have transcended generations, borders, and sometimes even death. Through them, the magazine has done more than simply celebrate fame. It has explored legacy, memory, the price of genius, and the place of Black artists in the global imagination.
