The richest 1 %, often at the helm of large multinationals , exploit loopholes in legislation and economics to maximize their profits , while instituting labor systems reminiscent of the worst excesses of industrialization . The concentration of wealth and the power that goes with it are used to influence public policy , maintain economic systems that favor the interests of a minority , and exploit workers in the broadest sense .
This phenomenon has engendered a cycle of social and economic polarization that resonates with centuries past , when the earth ’ s resources were taken without regard for the social consequences . Struggles for social rights and protections are crystallizing in response to these modern oligarchies , and movements are emerging every day to challenge this status quo .
A good conflict always generates profit .
Today , in a more contemporary context , oligarchies continue to play a crucial role in wars and conflicts . Invocations by the likes of Vladimir Putin of the support of Russian oligarchies in the Ukraine conflicts illustrate how economic power can influence military decisions . Donald Trump ’ s new ascension to power does not help the situation of permanent conflict maintained by the oligarchy . The billionaire friend of billionaires , despite his pacifist overtones that want to put an end to the war in Ukraine as quickly as possible , does indeed have a malicious plan of real predation behind the peace plan announced by his administration , flanked by the highly influential oligarch Elon Musk .
