In 1979, appears Kassav, a music group that from its inception, will make a kind of cultural revolution by the uniqueness of its sounds. Kassav is certainly one of the most famous bands in the world. In 40 years, The group has performed in front of millions of people on five continents. It has given concerts in almost all African, and western world, metropolises. In the United States, Canada, France, England, Japan, and even the former USSR, becoming the first
"black" group to visit the red square musically speaking, subjugating the crowds in Leningrad (St Petersburg ) in 1989 for three consecutive nights.
Kassav's music revolutionized Afro Caribbean music. With authentic sounds, Kassav has crossed borders and oceans to become one of the most influential music groups of our time. Miles Davis listening to the group in 1988 in New York, quotes them in his autobiography stating that Kassav represented what would be the music of the future, while Wyclef Jean admits to have been conquered by the revolutionary music of Kassav
Kassav in Creole is a cassava cake that when cooked properly mute into a soft delicacy or a toxic product when mishandled. The making of the kassav is an allegory that summarizes in itself the musical alchemy of the group. The Zouk, resulting from this process is synonymous of dance party, because during the 80s, in the French Caribbean, popular balls in neighborhoods were called Zouk, and the music of Kassav which was danced more and more in Zouks (balls) became Zouk.
