Born from a music legend she is no less trying to build her own path, crafting records that express her musical influence, in a not so common way. Blending tunes to create something unique, Nkulee Dube has managed to fuse Ethno-soul, Jazz with Reggae.

the muse of what Is called Ethno Ragga, who released her first album when she was 17, followed by the opus titled My Way released in 2011 is the guest of Flashmag this month. in an extensive interview she tells us more about her career.

Hello Nkulee, we are happy to have you today as guest of our music page.

A question you have probably answered before and that seems obvious, seen the name you wear. what brought you to music? and I will ask the question the other way around was is possible for Nkulee Dube daughter of a music legend like Lucky Dube, not to be musician?

Well, I came into music when I was 16 years old and it was before I met my father or even knew that he was my father.

I was working as a backing vocalist & dancer for a South African artist “Lebo Mathosa”, she became my Mentor and directed my path through the industry.

I later met with my father when I was 18 years old. I guess in a way all the kids eventually get into music even if they grew up worlds apart from their father, it must be in the blood (laughs)

Nkulee in some languages in central Africa like the Fang and Ekang, means the drum. A special drum that is used for dancing and communication. what does it mean in your vernacular?

Wow, that’s amazing … I had no idea.

I my language “Nkulee" is Short for “Nkululeko” which means “Freedom"

Of course, the journey is always a quest, inherent to individual. so, what were your influences and how do you define your style some have dubbed Ethno Ragga?

I'm inspired by life in general and that makes my songs vary in style and content. I write about daily life things, like love, family and things youths living in this day have to endure in this new society. I just wanted to mix all my
