Michael Kiwanuka revealed his talent to the world in 2011, After his contract with the label Communion of Mumford & Sons, he will publish two EP, "Tell Me a Tale" and "I'm Getting Ready", before supporting Adele during her tour in the UK. The same year he finished in third place behind Emeli Sandé and Maverick Saber in the selection of British Critics Choice. A year later, he followed Jessie J, Florence + the Machine, and Ellie Goulding when he was announced winner of the prestigious BBC Sound of 2012 poll and soon after released his first single and album, called Home Again. After a long, global tour that saw him performs in famous arenas like Coachella, or Lollapalooza, Kiwanuka returned to the studio in 2015. With Michael Kiwanuka, it's the voice above all else. A voice he describes as "directly striking the atomic structure of the being" with direct emotional songs about. love, desire, comfort, commitment and belonging. It’s a voice that has built him a fans base in his early hours of fame via MySpace and small concerts in London, this led Paul Butler of The Bees to invite him to the band's studio in Isle of Wight, to set these introductory tracks that carried the promise of a new British singer / songwriter, of scale.
What's strange is that Michael initially planned to be a session guitarist who maybe, from time to time could write some funny songs for other people, but apparently fate had decided otherwise.
Michael Kiwanuka was born in Muswell Hill, North London in 1988, the son of Ugandan parents who had fled the Idi Amin Dada regime. He graduated from Fortismere, finishing in 2005 with more than respectable grades. He was considered a very nice and modest student, with a large circle of friends and great skill for all genres of music. He could be seen regularly in school concerts and recitals playing bass guitar or jazz guitar. Then he continued his studies at the School of Media, Arts and Design at the University of Westminster.
He had a troubled time to find his way into the social fabric, eager fan of the Spurs of Tottenham, he had trouble imagining the day when a name like Kiwanuka could be displayed comfortably on the back of a jersey, of such a famous football team.
