other places. when I start a music project I simply let the music guide me, where I should be.

It was very emotional to be in Africa. I know that I have to go back. It’s a life time journey, because there are so many places and cultures. It’s huge. Another world, we have to go back, we have to keep going back.

Like some say it’s not a country like some think, but a continent (smiles)

You have been a teacher of music, in many prestigious institutions as Berklee, or Oakland where you graduated . From the journalist point of view I’m, we have the feeling that youths are not following too much the path of jazz music, yet it should be a reference, a watchdog from excesses we can see in the hip hop or pop music of today. About you, if young peoples are mainly interested to be stars than musicians, disregarding the fundamental rules of music, don’t you think that the quality of music produced will suffer more and more ?

Yes definitely, you know this is a really interesting topic. It started here with TV shows like, “so you think you can sing”? Peoples will line up to sing, and whomever won would get a record label deal. It’s a beautiful opportunity. But, I think sometimes people look at musicians, and they don’t understand the seriousness of the profession. They don’t realize how many days, how many hours, how much money we spend in the process of learning and creating music. We never stop learning. They simply think, I can do that because it looks easy when we are on stage, and sometimes people ask when are you going to get a real job? Yet I can tell, I have spent more hours and more money in music that somebody who is making surgery. It should be respected as any other profession, as doctors and others. Now with the internet everybody can put a record out. The internet is flooded with all kind of stuffs. Some people want just to be stars, and it’s taking out a lot of quality .
