Styled BY ME
TRENDY
Media Professional, she is one of those who understood that the image and the gaits form indissociably a whole. Television program producer at the start, it is finally in front of the camera that she had a breakthrough as host of fashion program in the city of haute couture that is Paris. Leelyann Mvogo, who hosts the TV show Styled BY ME on 3A Télésud (1st pan-African channel in Paris) and CRTV (Cameroonian national channel) is our guest. In the lines that follow, she talks about her passion and gives us her insider's opinion of fashion and several other topics related to style.
Hello Leelyann, we are happy and our readership alike, to have you as guest of
the fashion page this month. So where does the passion of fashion come from, especially when one knows that you are first and foremost a media professional? Why did you specialize in fashion?
: In fact, my passion for fashion begins in adolescence; I drew models that I had realized either by my mother or other designers. I always liked fashion, my entourage found me tidy, neat, original in my way of dressing. But I did not think about making the choice get involved with fashion, after my studies! I had already thought about it for a long time, a risky angle, but it was a duty for me to do it, because fashion that represents 6% of global consumption is non-existent in Africa ... At my level I had to do something: Start by educating mentalities through a program. Thus, was born “Styled BY ME".
You previously worked in Africa in the media. What do you think of the coverage of the fashion sector by the African media? if something had to be changed to upgrade, what should be done?
I produce for the African medias, a personal choice after my studies. As I said above, fashion is almost non-existent in Africa, a more worrying situation in Central Africa where I come from, because West Africa is much more advanced ... Some reports on Fashion Weeks or other events organized occasionally are not enough.
I think the work to be done in the fashion sector doesn’t concern only the medias is not a negligible task, because it is a booming sector, Africa should seize this opportunity to better develop its fashion industry ... The media as for them play their role, they will always cover what there is to cover, if there is nothing, they will not do anything.
