Elie Kuame
fashion designer
I realized that it was my duty to show the richness of my culture, and prove also what I was able to do as a person belonging to a minority.
We are forced to work two or three times, taking into account all existing preconceptions in order to challenge the world of fashion here.
So I would say from the outset I was eagerly snapped up by the discovery of codes that mark this area, and I continue to learn.
When did you realize it was your calling? And those around you how what was their reaction to your ambition?
One is never sure of anything because life is fleeting, even more success. So I work so as at the beginning, as if I had to start my first collection, as if I got my first client as if I was on my first podium. It's easier to exercise when growing in humility or modesty.
Over time, my entourage confirmed my choice of wanting to be part of the art world of fashion.
Born in Belgium, from African and Lebanese parents, you grew up on the African continent in Côte d'Ivoire, how the mix of your root has affected your artistic creation?
The fact that I am mixed did not affect my work, it stakes it. My multi-ethnic universe is characterized precisely by these three influences that blend so perfectly homogeneously, in my creative process. That said, I can easily separate them if the need arises to take advantage of their respective strengths.
What are the designers who have most influenced you, and what inspires you the most?
