Maradona holding up the world cup trophy at the Azteca stadium Mexico 1986
Diego Maradona was born in Lanùs, Argentina, on October 30, 1960. Coming from a disadvantaged background, he first played for Argentinos Juniors then for Boca Juniors before joining Europe in 1982. He arrived at FC Barcelona in 1982, after playing in the FIFA World Cup in Spain. Its adaptation to the European game was difficult, especially against defenders. Transferred in July 1984 to Naples, he was appointed captain of the Argentina team to compete in the 1986 World Cup. He flew over the competition, scoring an extraordinary goal against England. Maradona and Argentina still make it to the final after a narrow save in the group stage. The Argentines will lose in the final to Germany on a penalty from Andreas Brehme.
The following years were marked by troubles off the pitch that undermined his performances, and suspensions for doping, as during the World Cup in the United States in 1994. After signing in Seville in 1992, he returned to Argentina in 1993, and ended his career in 1997 at Boca Juniors. Maradona returned to the football scene as Argentina coach in 2008.
Despite a place in the quarterfinals at the 2010 World Cup, he was dismissed from the post for poor results. Subsequently, he coached two Emirati
